Firstly, what is stress? The dictionary defines stress as:
"a specific response by the body to a stimulus, as fear or pain, that disturbs or interferes with the normal physiological equilibrium of an organism; physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension."
Body Stress Release, or BSR, is a gentle pressure-based technique that stimulates the body's own healing process. It arrived in the UK in the 1990's from South Africa and, thanks to the rising number of practitioners and satisfied clients, it has risen in popularity and is fast becoming part of the mainstream health care.
BSR is suitable for a variety of complaints, in particular sciatica, back pain and headaches, but it can also have wonderful results for digestive problems and cramps.
Unlike the traditional massage, the practitioner does not come into direct contact with the client's skin and there is no heavy pounding or manipulation of joints that we associate with chiropractic or physiotherapeutic treatments. Clients lie fully clothed and the practitioner uses a series of techniques to find muscular tension, after which a light pressure is applied to release the tension from the muscles
